Kerry & Robert – A Japanese-American Wedding at Il Riccio, Capri

Il Riccio · Capri · June 2025 Kerry & Robert

An Elegant Wedding at Il Riccio, Capri — Where the Mediterranean Meets Japanese-American Love

There are places in the world that need no decoration. Capri is one of them. And Il Riccio — the Michelin-starred beach club perched on the cliffs of Anacapri, overlooking the Blue Grotto and the endless expanse of the Mediterranean — is one of those rare venues where the setting itself becomes the ceremony.

On 20 June 2025, Kerry and Robert chose this extraordinary place to celebrate their wedding. She is Japanese, he is American. Together, they created a day that was elegant, intimate, and unmistakably theirs — a celebration of two cultures, two families, and one extraordinary view.

Getting Ready — Caesar Augustus, Above the Clouds

The day began at the Hotel Caesar Augustus — one of Capri's most celebrated properties, suspended above the sea on a clifftop terrace that has been inspiring wonder since the 1930s. Kerry prepared surrounded by her bridesmaids, the morning light soft and golden through the windows, the island stretching below them like a painting.

Robert and his groomsmen prepared in the same hotel — that rare and easy luxury of a wedding day where both partners begin in the same exceptional place, then come together for the first time at the ceremony. The energy between the two groups — the quiet anticipation of the bridesmaids, the easy confidence of the groomsmen — set the tone for everything that followed.

The Journey to Il Riccio — Vintage Buses on the Island Roads

Getting to Il Riccio is part of the experience. The venue sits on the northwestern coast of Anacapri, accessible only by the island's narrow winding roads — roads that on a June afternoon smell of lemon blossom and sea salt.

For Kerry and Robert's guests, the journey itself became a celebration. Vintage buses — those beautifully impractical, entirely charming vehicles that seem to belong specifically to the Italian island experience — transported the wedding party along the cliffside roads toward the venue. Windows open, laughter spilling out, the Mediterranean appearing and disappearing between the curves: it was exactly the kind of arrival that sets the mood for everything that follows.

The Ceremony — Vows Above the Blue Grotto

Il Riccio's open-air terrace, suspended above the sea with an uninterrupted view of the Faraglioni rocks and the glittering water below, provided the setting for the ceremony. On a June afternoon, when the Mediterranean light is at its most generous — warm, golden, refusing to fade — there are few more beautiful places on earth to exchange vows.

Kerry and Robert's ceremony was symbolic — the most personal and flexible choice, allowing the couple to craft their vows entirely in their own words, in their own languages, for their own story. Without the constraints of a legal script or religious formula, the ceremony became exactly what a wedding should be: a declaration of two people to each other, witnessed by the people they love most.

The blue-and-white interiors of Il Riccio, inspired by Capri's marine palette, framed the celebration with a freshness and sophistication that felt entirely natural. This is a venue that understands its own beauty and never overcrowds it.

The Reception — Michelin-Starred Dining by the Sea

The reception at Il Riccio is inseparable from its kitchen. As a Michelin-starred restaurant, the venue's culinary offering is not simply catering — it is a central part of the experience. Fresh seafood caught that morning, local Caprese ingredients, innovative Italian cuisine that honors the island's traditions while bringing them entirely into the present.

For an international couple like Kerry and Robert — with guests traveling from Japan and the United States, arriving with different palates and different expectations — Il Riccio's menu offered a universal language. The kind of food that needs no translation: beautifully presented, deeply local, immediately understood.

Dinner unfolded as the afternoon became evening and the sea below darkened from turquoise to deep blue. The terrace, lit now by the soft glow of the approaching sunset, created an atmosphere of effortless, unhurried elegance. This is a wedding where the venue carries you — where you simply have to arrive, be present, and allow the beauty of the place to do what it has always done.

A Wedding Between Two Worlds

What made Kerry and Robert's wedding particularly moving was the quiet cultural richness it contained. A Japanese bride and an American groom, families from opposite ends of the world, meeting on an Italian island above the Mediterranean — there is something genuinely poetic about that convergence. About the fact that all of these different histories, traditions, and distances resolved themselves into one afternoon in Anacapri.

Planning a wedding at Il Riccio requires deep knowledge of the venue and of Capri's particular logistical rhythms. The island operates on its own time, with its own rules about access, transport, and coordination. Having worked extensively with international couples celebrating on Capri, I was able to guide Kerry and Robert through every detail — from the vintage bus coordination to the ceremony structure — ensuring that the day felt seamless, joyful, and entirely focused on what mattered most.

June in Capri. A clifftop terrace. Two hundred years of accumulated beauty beneath your feet. Some weddings stay with you long after the last photograph is taken. This was one of them.
